O revestimento em linho
da aeronave, o verniz e o
esquema de camufagem
são uma reprodução fel do
que era feito nas ofcinas de
aviação em 1918. Ele está
equipado com uma réplica
da hélice Éclair feita com base
em uma original preser-
vada no Musée de l’Air et de
l’Espace, em Le Bourget. É um
fato pouco conhecido, mas a
hélice Éclair (relâmpago) de
madeira foi a primeira expe-
riência de Marcel Bloch no
mundo da aviação; tornando-
se Dassault após a 2ª Guerra
Mundial.
Tendo voado novamente
pela primeira vez em 3 de
Maio de 1991, após 73 anos
de esquecimento, ele foi
primeiramente pintado como
o Spad XIII de Charles Dolan,
o então último sobrevivente
da famosa Esquadrilha La
Fayette, antes de ser pintado
como uma máquina da Esca-
drille Spa 83 “Chimère” depois
de ano 2000.

Morane-Saulnier (formada

in an attic in Belgium in the
early 1970s, painstakingly
restored to fying condition
over a period of fve years by
members of the Memorial
Flight Association, is now a
living testimony of what was
unanimously considered as
the best fghter plane used
by the Allies during WW1.
Bearing the construction
number 4377, records show
that it was built in Levallois-
Perret in the Paris suburb
in February 1918 by the
Avionnerie Kellner Frères (a
pre-war automobile manu-
facturer and one of many
subcontractors to the SPAD
company prevailing at that
time). It’s entire fuselage
and 300hp Hispano-Suiza
engine are genuine originals,
but the wings were entirely
reconstructed using legacy
plans and technical manuals.
The aircraft’s linen canvas,
varnish coating and camou-
fage scheme are a faithful
reproduction of what was
done in aviation work­shops
in1918. It is ftted with a
reproduction of the Éclair
propeller made after an
